MC: Inspectors make 6500 visits to ensure businesses have credit card machines

25 May 2022

The Ministry of Commerce field monitoring teams conducted 6,500 inspection visits to markets and outlets around the Kingdom, between April 25 and May 7, 2022, to make sure businesses have Mada card machines that accept consumer payments. The teams imposed penalties on violators.

Retail shops that did not supply electronic payment terminals received 92 violations from the Ministry's inspectors.

The inspection visits are part of the Ministry's efforts to monitor commercial establishments and outlets' commitment to providing electronic payment solutions to consumers in all commercial establishments across the Kingdom.

The monitoring teams imposed immediate financial penalties on non-compliant establishments on a cumulative basis, with the penalty increasing if the offense is repeated.

Having electronic payment devices in stores allows customers to utilize those methods at all sales outlets, minimizing cash circulation and eliminating cover-up practices.
